Privacy Policy

In short
Rak'ah works on your device. Your location never leaves it. The only thing kept on a server is your prayer history, under an anonymous account that carries no name, email address or phone number.
What never leaves your device
- Your location. Prayer times and the qibla are worked out on your iPhone and Apple Watch from where you are. Your coordinates are never sent anywhere.
- Movement from your watch. Rak'ahs are counted from your wrist on the watch itself. Motion data is not transmitted.
- Reminders. Notifications are scheduled by your own device.
- Dhikr counts and app settings.
What is stored on a server
When a prayer is recorded, this is saved to Google Cloud Firestore:
- which prayer it was (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib or Isha)
- how many rak'ahs were counted, and how many that prayer expects
- when it started and ended
- whether it was counted on the watch or the phone
A record of prayers is information about religious practice, which Apple classifies as sensitive. It is stored for one reason: so your history is still there when you move to a new device.
It is held under an anonymous account identifier created automatically the first time you open the app. No name, email address, phone number or contact information is collected at any point.
What this app does not do
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics and no crash reporting.
- No tracking of you across other apps or websites.
- Nothing is sold, rented or shared with third parties for their own purposes.
Who processes data on our behalf
Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) stores the prayer history for us as a processor. See Google's privacy terms at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
Keeping or deleting your history
Your prayer history belongs to you. To delete it, open Rak'ah and go to Settings › Account › Delete my prayer history. That removes every prayer record and the anonymous account they sit under, at once. You can also write to the address below and it will be done for you.
Deleting the app from your devices removes everything held on them — settings, dhikr counts and any motion recordings — immediately.
Children
Rak'ah is not directed at children and collects nothing that identifies anyone.
